Reading the Bible means we are encountering life and spirit, just as Jesus has declared. (John 6:63) Christians who are after the matters of God seek to know more and more about what God says. At the same time, as we read, we receive His life and His Spirit filling us more and more, until the fullness of God fills us completely.
Some may ask, how do we understand and receive? Jesus told us that the Holy Spirit teaches us all truth and guides us to remember His words. Jesus expects us to abide in Him and let His words abide in us. So it is possible that we can understand His words and let His words actually live in us as life and spirit. (John 15:7-8)
Jesus would never ask us or expect us to do anything unless it is simple and possible for every believer. He told us that the Holy Spirit is the key.
How do we hear the Holy Spirit? This is a question every Christian wants to know and practice. Without hearing the Holy Spirit we shall not understand what we read and miss out the wonderful abundant living that Jesus has promised and given to every believer.
The watchman’s experience is that one should never give up asking and seeking. Jesus told us to keep on seeking and we shall find, keep on knocking and the door shall be opened, keep on asking and we shall receive. He specifically used receiving the Holy Spirit from God to illustrate this action of present continuous tense. (Luke 11:9-13)
He has observed that some young believers have hungered and received very fast. Some old believers have suddenly woken and similarly hungered and received at an accelerated rate. Those who thirst come to Jesus and they are filled, just as Jesus has spoken. Jesus does not disappoint anyone who comes with thirst and hunger for the matters of God. they receive the Holy Spirit and are not disappointed. (John 7:37-39; 6:55; 6:45; 14:13-17; 14:23; 15:26; 16:13-15)
One common characteristics of this increasingly growing group of spiritually hungry and thirsty Christians is that they have an insatiable desire to keep on reading the words of God, to keep on listening to the words of God, to keep on soaking themselves with the words of God, the Bible.
Indeed, many have truly encountered the life and spirit that Jesus has spoken of in His words.
