end times church witnessing: discipleship manual

In the end days, many old guards are passing away. There is an urgency in making disciples. Today’s word is “make disciples“!

Bible verse are quoted from New King James Version (NKJV) (Boldness added.)

The first time the word disciple was mentioned in the Bible is in the following verse: Discipleship is closely linked to the word of God. The master is a teacher and practitioner of God’s words. The disciples are those who are taught God’s words and practice them.

Isaiah 8:16 Bind up the testimony, Seal the law among my disciples.

We read from the book of Matthew how Jesus and His disciples interacted: He called them and they followed. They came to Him and take orders from Him. He taught them in words and in practice of God’s words.

Matthew 4:18-19 And Jesus, walking by the Sea of Galilee, saw two brothers, Simon called Peter, and Andrew his brother, casting a net into the sea; for they were fishermen. 19 Then He said to them, “Follow Me, and I will make you fishers of men.”

Matthew 5:1 [ The Beatitudes ] And seeing the multitudes, He went up on a mountain, and when He was seated His disciples came to Him.

Matthew 8:23 [ Wind and Wave Obey Jesus ] Now when He got into a boat, His disciples followed Him.

Jesus revealed to His disciples what God was interested in. God wanted souls to be saved. Jesus not only sent out His disciples He told them to pray for more workers for God’s harvest.

Matthew 9:36-3836 But when He saw the multitudes, He was moved with compassion for them, because they were weary and scattered, like sheep having no shepherd. 37 Then He said to His disciples, “The harvest truly is plentiful, but the laborers are few. 38 Therefore pray the Lord of the harvest to send out laborers into His harvest.”

Jesus gave His authority and power to the disciples so that they could practice what He had taught them. All they needed to do was to do what Jesus had authorized them.

Matthew 10:1 [ The Twelve Apostles ] And when He had called His twelve disciples to Him, He gave them power overunclean spirits, to cast them out, and to heal all kinds of sickness and all kinds of disease. Matthew 10:24 “A discipleis not above his teacher, nor a servant above his master.

Jesus Himself continued putting into practice what He taught His disciples. He showed them how urgent and important the matter of bringing people into the kingdom of God was.

Matthew 11:1 [ John the Baptist Sends Messengers to Jesus ] Now it came to pass, when Jesus finished commanding His twelve disciples, that He departed from there to teach and to preach in their cities.

Jesus treated the disciples as His own close relatives.

Matthew 12:49 And He stretched out His hand toward His disciples and said, “Here are My mother and My brothers!

Jesus showed His disciples how His power could be used to override physical natural law and elements, such as supernaturally multiplying food when needed and walking on water as though walking on solid ground.

Matthew 14:19 Then He commanded the multitudes to sit down on the grass. And He took the five loaves and the two fish, and looking up to heaven, He blessed and broke and gave the loaves to the disciples; and the disciples gave to the multitudes.

Matthew 14:26 And when the disciples saw Him walking on the sea, they were troubled, saying, “It is a ghost!” And they cried out for fear.

Jesus taught the disciples how to follow Him effectively and successfully. The key was to leave oneself behind and take on a new identity as a new creation in Christ (2 Corinthians 5:17), joined to Him, one spirit with Him (1 Corinthians 6:17). He told them that it was a privilege to be called and chosen as only few could make it. By being His disciples they could partake all that He is. He will be victorious and is giving them all. (Ephesians 1:3)

Matthew 16:24 [ Take Up the Cross and Follow Him ] Then Jesus said to His disciples, “If anyone desires to come after Me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross, and follow Me.

Matthew 20:16-18

16 So the last will be first, and the first last. For many are called, but few chosen.” 17 Now Jesus, going up to Jerusalem, took the twelve disciples aside on the road and said to them, 18 “Behold, we are going up to Jerusalem, and the Son of Man will be betrayed to the chief priests and to the scribes; and they will condemn Him to death, Matthew 26:19 So the disciples did as Jesus had directed them; and they prepared the Passover. Matthew 26:26-27 26 And as they were eating, Jesus took bread, blessed and broke it, and gave it to the disciples and said, “Take, eat; this is My body.” 27 Then He took the cup, and gave thanks, and gave it to them, saying, “Drink from it, all of you.

Jesus also taught the disciples one essential key to continue their connection to Him. Prayer overcomes the physical realm and its limitation. Prayer is a spiritual weapon and enables human being to break through the physical barrier and enter into the presence of God, who is Spirit. (John 4:23-24) The Holy Spirit is the Spirit of intercession and empowers those who pray. (Romans 8:26-27)

26: 40-41 40 Then He came to the disciples and found them sleeping, and said to Peter, “What! Could you not watch with Me one hour? 41 Watch and pray, lest you enter into temptation. The spirit indeed is willing, but the flesh is weak.”

Jesus made sure the disciples knew He is risen and rejoice in witnessing His resurrection. Knowing our God is alive and ever living makes us want to worship Him and witness for Him.

Matthew 28:7 And go quickly and tell His disciples that He is risen from the dead, and indeed He is going before you into Galilee; there you will see Him. Behold, I have told you.”

Matthew 28:9 [ The Women Worship the Risen Lord ] And as they went to tell His disciples, behold, Jesus met them, saying, “Rejoice!” So they came and held Him by the feet and worshiped Him.

Last word from Jesus to the disciples: They too must make disciples of all nations. This command is for us too. We too, have the calling and sending from Jesus, His Spirit, the authority of His name, and His words. Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations for Jesus Christ!

Matthew 28:18-2018 And Jesus came and spoke to them, saying, “All authority has been given to Me in heaven and on earth.19 Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, 20 teaching them to observe all things that I have commanded you; and lo, I am with you always, even to the end of the age.” Amen. make disciples of all nations
