journey to see God: see God’s heavenly pattern for worship
Today we continue to see our God: in the way He sets pattern and measurement. From the beginning of His creation of heavens and earth, God has displayed the pattern He requires. His kingdom on earth is to be aligned with His kingdom in heaven. That is how His Son Jesus has shown and instructed His followers, just as the Father in heaven has instructed Him.
The heavenly pattern of God is not a physical pattern but we are shown His pattern through the physical. The instructions God gave Moses and Moses faithfully obeyed give us the physical perspective so we can understand and see the spiritual God in the pattern.
The pattern He requires for the appointment and separation of Levites is just as relevant and essential prerequisites for the ministry today. Who are the Levites? Everyone who is a follower of Jesus, called, justified by His blood, sanctified by the Holy Spirit, and shall be glorified according to the Scripture.
This means all believers, whom the Holy Spirit declares through the apostle Peter, “15 But now you must be holy in everything you do, just as God who chose you is holy.16 For the Scriptures say, “You must be holy because I am holy.”[c]“
“for you are a chosen people. You are royal priests,[a] a holy nation, God’s very own possession. As a result, you can show others the goodness of God, for he called you out of the darkness into his wonderful light..”
(1 Peter 1:15-16; 2:9)
Here are the Bible verses for us to meditate upon and apply in our personal living as a believer and in churches where we are all serving God as the Levites who were set apart for God.
[ The Two Witnesses ] Then I was given a reed like a measuring rod. And the angel stood, saying, “Rise and measure the temple of God, the altar, and those who worship there.
Revelation 21:15-17 5 And he who talked with me had a gold reed to measure the city, its gates, and its wall. 16 The city is laid out as a square; its length is as great as its breadth. And he measured the city with the reed: twelve thousand furlongs. Its length, breadth, and height are equal. 17 Then he measured its wall: one hundred and forty-four cubits, according to the measure of a man, that is, of an angel.
And you shall raise up the tabernacle according to its pattern which you were shown on the mountain.
Hebrews 8:5 (read the whole book of Hebrews for a complete pattern of God)
who serve the copy and shadow of the heavenly things, as Moses was divinely instructed when he was about to make the tabernacle. For He said, “See that you make all things according to the pattern shown you on the mountain.”
[ Our Citizenship in Heaven ] Brethren, join in following my example, and note those who so walk, as you have us for a pattern.
Titus 2:6-8 6 Likewise, exhort the young men to be sober-minded, 7 in all things showing yourself to be a pattern of good works; in doctrine showing integrity, reverence, incorruptibility,[a]8 sound speech that cannot be condemned, that one who is an opponent may be ashamed, having nothing evil to say of you.[b]
[ Be Loyal to the Faith ] Hold fast the pattern of sound words which you have heard from me, in faith and love which are in Christ Jesus.
————————————-On the calling and separation of the Levites
Numbers 7-8 New King James Version (NKJV)
(I have quoted excerpts but the readers are encouraged to read the whole two chapters)
7 Now it came to pass, when Moses had finished setting up the tabernacle, that he anointed it and consecrated it and all its furnishings, and the altar and all its utensils; so he anointed them and consecrated them. 2 Then the leaders of Israel, .. and they presented them before the tabernacle. 4 Then the Lord spoke to Moses, saying, 5 “Accept these from them, that they may be used in doing the work of the tabernacle of meeting; and you shall give them to the Levites, to every man according to his service.” ..
10 Now the leaders offered the dedication offering for the altar when it was anointed; so the leaders offered their offering before the altar. 11 For the Lord said to Moses, “They shall offer their offering, one leader each day, for the dedication of the altar.”
12 And the one who offered his offering on the first day was Nahshon the son of Amminadab, from the tribe of Judah. 13 His offering was …This was the offering of Nahshon… 18 On the second day Nethanel …presented an offering...78 On the twelfth day Ahira the son of Enan, leader of the children of Naphtali, presented an offering…84 This was the dedication offering for the altar from the leaders of Israel, when it was anointed:..This was the dedication offering for the altar after it was anointed.
89 Now when Moses went into the tabernacle of meeting to speak with Him, he heard the voice of One speaking to him from above the mercy seat that was on the ark of the Testimony, from between the two cherubim; thus He spoke to him.
8:1 And the Lord spoke to Moses, saying: 2 “Speak to Aaron, and say to him, ‘When you arrange the lamps, the seven lamps shall give light in front of the lampstand.’” 3 And Aaron did so;
5 Then the Lord spoke to Moses, saying: 6 “Take the Levites from among the children of Israel and cleanse them ceremonially.7 Thus you shall do to them to cleanse them: Sprinkle water of purification on them, and let them shave all their body, and let them wash their clothes, and so make themselves clean…
9 And you shall bring the Levites before the tabernacle of meeting, and you shall gather together the whole congregation of the children of Israel. 10 So you shall bring the Levites before the Lord, and the children of Israel shall lay their hands on the Levites; 11 and Aaron shall offer the Levites before the Lordlike a wave offering from the children of Israel, that they may perform the work of the Lord…
14 Thus you shall separate the Levites from among the children of Israel, and the Levites shall be Mine. 15 After that the Levites shall go in to service the tabernacle of meeting. So you shall cleanse them and offer them like a wave offering. 16 For they are wholly given to Me from among the children of Israel; I have taken them for Myself instead of all who open the womb, the firstborn of all the children of Israel…
20 Thus Moses and Aaron and all the congregation of the children of Israel did to the Levites; according to all that the Lord commanded Moses concerning the Levites, so the children of Israel did to them. 21 And the Levites purified themselves and washed their clothes;
22 After that the Levites went in to do their work in the tabernacle of meeting before Aaron and his sons; as the Lord commanded Moses concerning the Levites, so they did to them.
