Zechariah 5: further warning of spiritual wickedness (woman in a basket)

We continue reading Zechariah 5 on how to detect spiritual wickedness. In prophet Zechariah’s vision, wickedness was personified as a woman in a basket (ephah). The basket of wickedness is being taken to where it will be set on a pedestal in a temple built for it: Wickedness (sins) put on pedestal to be worshiped by many in places of worship (including churches).

Summary: How to find Wickedness?

Sins, religion, commercialization, political power will come together and will be highly valued and exalted in the worldly system (starting from the time of Nimrod.) In places of worship with this combination.

Jesus actually rebuked such an unholy system:

[ Cleansing the Temple ] And Jesus entered the temple and drove out all those who were buying and selling in the temple, and overturned the tables of the money changers and the seats of those who were selling doves.
 Luke 19:45-46 New American Standard Bible (NASB) Traders Driven from the Temple45 Jesus entered the temple and began to drive out those who were selling, 46 saying to them, It is written, ‘And My house shall be a house of prayer,’ but you have made it a robbers[a]den.”

Warning of sins both in churches and among the unbelievers:

1 Thessalonians 4:2-4 New King James Version (NKJV)

for you know what commandments we gave you through the Lord Jesus.

For this is the will of God, your sanctification: that you should abstain from sexual immorality; that each of you should know how to possess his own vessel in sanctification and honor,

1 Corinthians 10:8 Nor let us commit sexual immorality, as some of them did, and in one day twenty-three thousand fell;

Jude 1:7 as Sodom and Gomorrah, and the cities around them in a similar manner to these, having given themselves over to sexual immorality and gone after strange flesh, are set forth as an example, suffering the vengeance of eternal fire.
Revelation 2:14 But I have a few things against you, because you have there those who hold the doctrine of Balaam, who taught Balak to put a stumbling block before the children of Israel, to eat things sacrificed to idols, and to commit sexual immorality.
 2 Peter 2:14-16 New King James Version (NKJV)14 having eyes full of adultery and that cannot cease from sin, enticing unstable souls. They have a heart trained in covetous practices, and are accursed children. 15 They have forsaken the right way and gone astray, following the way of Balaam the son of Beor, who loved the wages of unrighteousness; 16 but he was rebuked for his iniquity: a dumb donkey speaking with a man’s voice restrained the madness of the prophet.

Revelation 2:20 Nevertheless I have a few things against you, because you allow that woman Jezebel, who calls herself a prophetess, to teach and seduce My servants to commit sexual immorality and eat things sacrificed to idols. Revelation 2:21 And I gave her time to repent of her sexual immorality, and she did not repent.

Revelation 9:20-21 New King James Version (NKJV)

20 But the rest of mankind, who were not killed by these plagues, did not repent of the works of their hands, that they should not worship demons, and idols of gold, silver, brass, stone, and wood, which can neither see nor hear nor walk. 21 And they did not repent of their murders or their sorceries[a] or their sexual immorality or their thefts.

=================================

Zechariah 5:5-11 wickedness (sins) put on pedestal to be worshiped by many in places of worship

Then the angel who was talking with me came forward and said, “Look up and see what’s coming.”

“What is it?” I asked.

He replied, “It is a basket for measuring grain,[b] and it’s filled with the sins[c] of everyone throughout the land.”

Then the heavy lead cover was lifted off the basket, and there was a woman sitting inside it. The angel said, “The woman’s name is Wickedness,” and he pushed her back into the basket and closed the heavy lid again.

Then I looked up and saw two women flying toward us, gliding on the wind. They had wings like a stork, and they picked up the basket and flew into the sky.

10 Where are they taking the basket?” I asked the angel.

11 He replied, “To the land of Babylonia,[d] where they will build a temple for the basket. And when the temple is ready, they will set the basket there on its pedestal.”

Cush begot Nimrod; he began to be a mighty one on the earth. He was a mighty hunter before the Lord; therefore it is said, “Like Nimrod the mighty hunter before the Lord.” 10 And the beginning of his kingdom was Babel, Erech, Accad, and Calneh, in the land of Shinar.
