Today’s word: “CALLED”. What does it mean to be called by God?
Many are actually called by God (the Holy Spirit) through Jesus to believe in Jesus. The Bible calls mankind to believe in Jesus. Many hear the message and the call of God. The call is in the Gospel and those who hear and believe are saved.
Matthew 20:16 So the last will be first, and the first last. For many are called, but few chosen.”
Matthew 22:14 “For many are called, but few are chosen.”
The Lord Himself also calls believers to become His disciples. Those who respond with obedience are trained and equipped with the Scriptures and the power of the Holy Spirit and authority of the name of Jesus for specific assignment to advance the Kingdom of God just as the early apostles and disciples of Jesus did.
Luke 6:13 And when it was day, He called His disciples to Himself; and from them He chose twelve whom He also named apostles:
Matthew 4:18 [ Four Fishermen Called as Disciples ] And Jesus, walking by the Sea of Galilee, saw two brothers, Simon called Peter, and Andrew his brother, casting a net into the sea; for they were fishermen. Matthew 4:21 Going on from there, He saw two other brothers, James the son of Zebedee, and John his brother, in the boat with Zebedee their father, mending their nets. He called them,
Matthew 10:1 [ The Twelve Apostles ] And when He had called His twelve disciples to Him, He gave them power over unclean spirits, to cast them out, and to heal all kinds of sickness and all kinds of disease.
Matthew 15:32 [ Feeding the Four Thousand ] Now Jesus called His disciples to Himself and said, “I have compassion on the multitude, because they have now continued with Me three days and have nothing to eat. And I do not want to send them away hungry, lest they faint on the way.”
The called ones who respond to Jesus and obey the calling have a special privileged identity and status in the Kingdom of God
Matthew 5:9 Blessed are the peacemakers, For they shall be called sons of God.
John 15:15 No longer do I call you servants, for a servant does not know what his master is doing; but I have called you friends, for all things that I heard from My Father I have made known to you.
Romans 8:28 And we know that all things work together for good to those who love God, to those who are the called according to His purpose.
The privileged identity is conditional to being truly humble. Be Christ-like.
Matthew 18:1-3 18 At that time the disciples came to Jesus, saying, “Who then is greatest in the kingdom of heaven?” 2 Then Jesus called a little child to Him, set him in the midst of them, 3 and said, “Assuredly, I say to you, unless you are converted and become as little children, you will by no means enter the kingdom of heaven.
Matthew 5:19 Whoever therefore breaks one of the least of these commandments, and teaches men so, shall be called least in the kingdom of heaven; but whoever does and teaches them, he shall be called great in the kingdom of heaven.
Matthew 23:10 And do not be called teachers; for One is your Teacher, the Christ.
Matthew 20:24-26 24 And when the ten heard it, they were greatly displeased with the two brothers. 25 But Jesus called them to Himself and said, “You know that the rulers of the Gentiles lord it over them, and those who are great exercise authority over them. 26 Yet it shall not be so among you; but whoever desires to become great among you, let him be your servant.
God has called. Some have responded. Pray that we each hear the call and respond. Pray for your specific calling.
