12th week 2nd day: The Lamb of God

the LambJohn the Baptist has witnessed this of Jesus,“Behold! The Lamb of God who takes away the sin of the world!” Jesus has fulfilled the Scriptures foretold by the prophets on this Lamb of God: “He has been slaughtered as of a lamb without blemish and without spot for the sins of many.” Jesus has shed His blood: for the remission (forgiveness) of our sins, and the establishment of the New Covenant in His blood.

Today’s Scriptures are quoted from the Holy Bible New King James Version (NKJV) (boldness and italics added to highlight some verses)

Matthew 26:56

56 But all this was done that the Scriptures of the prophets might be fulfilled.”

The following account took place on the first day of the Feast of the Unleavened Bread, also known as the Passover, this greatest and most important of the Jewish feasts, which ever brought a great host of pilgrims to Jerusalem, was kept in the first month of the Jewish year (Nisan), from the 15th of the month, the day of full moon, to the 21st. Roughly, this corresponded to the end of our March.

Jesus instituted the Holy Communion and told the disciples, “For this is My blood of the new[a] covenant, which is shed for many for the remission of sins.” Matthew 26:28

Acts 8:32

32 The place in the Scripture which he read was this:

He was led as a sheep to the slaughter;
And as a lamb before its shearer is silent,
So He opened not His mouth.

1 Peter 1:18-20

18 knowing that you were not redeemed with corruptible things, like silver or gold, from your aimless conduct received by tradition from your fathers, 19 but with the precious blood of Christ, as of a lamb without blemish and without spot. 20 He indeed was foreordained before the foundation of the world, but was manifest in these last times for you.

Isaiah 53:4-8

Surely He has borne our griefs
And carried our sorrows;
Yet we esteemed Him stricken,
Smitten by God, and afflicted.
But He was wounded for our transgressions,
He was bruised for our iniquities;
The chastisement for our peace was upon Him,
And by His stripes we are healed.
All we like sheep have gone astray;
We have turned, every one, to his own way;
And the Lord has laid on Him the iniquity of us all.

He was oppressed and He was afflicted,
Yet He opened not His mouth;
He was led as a lamb to the slaughter,
And as a sheep before its shearers is silent,
So He opened not His mouth.
8 He was taken from prison and from judgment,
And who will declare His generation?
For He was cut off from the land of the living;
For the transgressions of My people He was stricken.
