a letter to princes and princesses of God: the dangers of last days (2222)

2 Timothy 2:22
2 Timothy 2:22 Bible verse

Having had long discourses with young friends and relatives lately, I realize how close the last days are and how unaware our young people are of the dangerous times. Subconsciously they have been alerted by their spirit and they desperately need help with seemingly no help in sight for them in their own world, mainly virtual and unreal. Even in the real world of their own home and neighborhood the grown-ups seem living in another distant world which they cannot reach. Indeed these lonely youth daily surf the internet to find answers to the many questions they are encountering in futility. What can a spiritual watchman do in this vast virtual space of emptiness? What do we have to fill the void? Today I am led to read Apostle Paul’s letters to young Timothy. Timothy was an exemplary godly youth in his time well brought up by his godly grandmother and mother. Yet, Paul was led by the Holy Spirit to write to him and alert him of the requirement to pursue godliness and holiness. Why? Because Paul knew the end times will come and even godly men will fall. What is Paul’s answer to this great danger? Here is my quote of his timeless letter to my young friends.

Dear young friends, princes and princesses of God:
I am writing with an urgency compelled by the love of God. I pray you read what my friend Paul has written. His timeless letter has helped many young people in his time and throughout the history of mankind for nearly two thousands years. Believe me, I was a young person once .

“Difficult Times Will Come”
3 But understand this, that in the last days dangerous times [of great stress and trouble] will come [difficult days that will be hard to bear]. 2 For people will be lovers of self [narcissistic, self-focused], lovers of money [impelled by greed], boastful, arrogant, revilers, disobedient to parents, ungrateful, unholy and profane, 3 [and they will be] unloving [devoid of natural human affection, calloused and inhumane], irreconcilable, malicious gossips, devoid of self-control [intemperate, immoral], brutal, haters of good, 4 traitors, reckless, conceited, lovers of [sensual] pleasure rather than lovers of God, 5 holding to a form of [outward] godliness (religion), although they have denied its power [for their conduct nullifies their claim of faith]. Avoid such people and keep far away from them.
(2 Timothy 3:1-5)

Let us all be vessels for honor!
Nevertheless, the firm foundation of God [which He has laid] stands [sure and unshaken despite attacks], bearing this seal: “The Lord knows those who are His,” and, “Let everyone who names the name of the Lord stand apart from wickedness and withdraw from wrongdoing.”

20 Now in a large house there are not only [a]vessels and objects of gold and silver, but also vessels and objects of wood and of earthenware, and some are for honorable (noble, good) use and some for dishonorable (ignoble, common). 21 Therefore, if anyone cleanses himself from these things [which are dishonorable—disobedient, sinful], he will be a vessel for honor, sanctified [set apart for a special purpose and], useful to the Master, prepared for every good work.

2:22 Run away from youthful lusts—pursue righteousness, faith, love, and peace with those [believers] who call on the Lord out of a pure heart.
(2 Timothy 2:19-22)

In summary: Let us run away from the bad, and run towards the good! It means running away in both our thoughts and in physical actions. We do not act unless we have been there in our thoughts. Guard our thoughts. Don’t let our thoughts go to places we should not go. Keep our thoughts pure by reading the pure words from God together with our godly friends. Bombard our ears with good songs based on the words of God from godly singers. Pray in tongue without ceasing just as the Apostle Paul taught us.*

Love from your dear friend,
Watchman J
3/21/2017

* I will write about the impact of music and tongue on our mind in another letter.

Footnotes:
2 Timothy 2:20 Like Rom 9:20-23, the analogy here has its roots in OT poetry (e.g. Ps 31:12; Prov 26:23) and prophecy (e.g. Is 45:9; Jer 18:2-6). Paul speaks of believers and unbelievers in Rom 9, but here he seems to be describing God’s household or family, in which all the vessels (containers, utensils) represent believers. While the objects in Rom 9:21 do not change, the vessels here are capable of changing their status and the use to which God puts them by keeping themselves from sinful behavior and influences (v 21).

I serve a risen Savior

He livesWritten around Easter in 1932, in the Great Depression, and also when a Jewish student bluntly challenged Ackley – ‘why worship a dead Jew?’ Ackley’s prompt response presaged the title of the hymn he later wrote. This hymn has impacted my own life since young. When confronted of my faith by various external factors beyond my control, I always thought of this hymn. I have learned that our circumstances do not make the man. The test of my CHRISTIAN FAITH is in my internal personal life. Am I living by the Spirit of Christ? I have learned that inner strength can only come from a supernatural living God with whom I have my daily relationship and communion.
Our life is our proof that our Savior really lives.
Romans 8:14 New King James Version (NKJV)

14 For as many as are led by the Spirit of God, these are sons of God.

HYMN: I SERVE A RISEN SAVIOR

1

I serve a risen Savior
He’s in the world today.
I know that He is living,
Whatever men may say.
I see His hand of mercy;
I hear His voice of cheer;
And just the time I need Him
He’s always near.He lives, He lives, Christ Jesus lives today!
He walks with me and talks with me along life’s narrow way.
He lives, He lives, salvation to impart!
You ask me how I know He lives?
He lives within my heart.

2

In all the world around me
I see His loving care,
And though my heart grows weary,
I never will despair;
I know that He is leading,
Through all the stormy blast;
The day of His appearing
Will come at last.

3

Rejoice, rejoice, O Christian,
Lift up your voice and sing
Eternal hallelujahs
To Jesus Christ the King!
The Hope of all who seek Him,
The Help of all who find,
None other is so loving,
So good and kind.

Lyrics and Music: Alfred Henry Ackley (1887-1960)

Stephen stonedNow, this Stephen.

Acts 7 [Full Chapter]

The cohen hagadol asked, “Are these accusations true?” and Stephen said: “Brothers and fathers, listen to me! The God of glory appeared to Avraham avinu in Mesopotamia before he lived in Haran and said to him, ‘Leave your land and your family, and go into the land that I will show you.’

What they said was agreeable to the whole gathering. They chose Stephen, a man full of faith and the Ruach HaKodesh, Philip, Prochoros, Nikanor, Timon, Parmenas and Nicholas, who was a proselyte from Antioch.

But opposition arose from members of the Synagogue of the Freed Slaves (as it was called), composed of Cyrenians, Alexandrians and people from Cilicia and the province of Asia. They argued with Stephen,

who are the sons and children of God?

For those who ask, here are some verses on who the sons and children of God are. They are self-explanatory. Each believer does his or her own reality check based on the sword of the Spirit – the words of God.
John 3:5-6
Jesus answered, “Most assuredly, I say to you, unless one is born of water and the Spirit, he cannot enter the kingdom of God. That which is born of the flesh is flesh, and that which is born of the Spirit is spirit.
Blessed are the peacemakers, For they shall be called sons of God.
But as many as received Him, to them He gave the right to become children of God, to those who believe in His name:

and not for that nation only, but also that He would gather together in one the children of God who were scattered abroad.

But when Jesus saw it, He was greatly displeased and said to them, “Let the little children come to Me, and do not forbid them; for of such is the kingdom of God.

And the disciples were astonished at His words. But Jesus answered again and said to them, “Children, how hard it is for those who trust in riches to enter the kingdom of God!

The Spirit Himself bears witness with our spirit that we are children of God,

and if children, then heirs—heirs of God and joint heirs with Christ, if indeed we suffer with Him, that we may also be glorified together.

That is, those who are the children of the flesh, these are not the children of God; but the children of the promise are counted as the seed.

1 John 3:1 [Full Chapter] Behold what manner of love the Father has bestowed on us, that we should be called children of God! Therefore the world does not know us, because it did not know Him.
[ Sons and Heirs ] For you are all sons of God through faith in Christ Jesus.

And because you are sons, God has sent forth the Spirit of His Son into your hearts, crying out, “Abba, Father!”

For as many as are led by the Spirit of God, these are sons of God.

For the earnest expectation of the creation eagerly waits for the revealing of the sons of God.

“And it shall come to pass in the place where it was said to them, ‘You are not My people,’ There they shall be called sons of the living God.”

But you are not in the flesh but in the Spirit, if indeed the Spirit of God dwells in you. Now if anyone does not have the Spirit of Christ, he is not His.

And if Christ is in you, the body is dead because of sin, but the Spirit is life because of righteousness.

But if the Spirit of Him who raised Jesus from the dead dwells in you, He who raised Christ from the dead will also give life to your mortal bodies through His Spirit who dwells in you. boy redeemed

Sons of God are rising

The more the watchman seeks God, the more he receives from the Lord the signs of the time and the message is loud and clear: the Lord Jesus’ return is imminent. God’s plan does not change. God’s plan does not delay. The time and sign are clear: sons of God must rise up NOW!

AAAJ watchman

Who are the end times men? The end times champions? How does God locate them? What does He talk to them about? The watchman is interested to know. He has been asked to read Gideon again. Indeed, the conversation brings great revelation for him and for his class.

God works with people of faith. In Gideon’s case, God has to start the faith journey and accommodates Gideon all the way to deliver the Israelites from their arch enemy, the Midianites.
Gideon is far from an ideal candidate to lead the people to win wars. He is hiding from the enemy and working on his meager supplies of food miserably and in shame and indignation. He is apparently disillusioned with the false gods (Baal and Asherah) his father worships as they cannot help the Israelites.
Gideon has right for his indignation for the Midianites are cruel and have…

be sons of God in the power of the Holy Spirit

We note in the above blog how Jesus, the Son of God was led by the Holy Spirit! The Scripture declares that as Jesus is, so are we in this world!
Let us therefore emulate Jesus as sons of God, be led by the Holy Spirit and walk in the power of his might! We definitely need the power of the Spirit of Christ (the Holy Spirit) to do the following:

1. We walk in the light as He is in the light (1 John 1:7)
2. We know that when He is revealed, we shall be like Him, for we shall see Him as He is. (1 John 3:2)
3. And everyone who has this hope in Him purifies himself, just as He is pure. (1 John 3:3)
4. He who practices righteousness is righteous, just as He is righteous. (1 John 3:7)
5. because as He is, so are we in this world. (1 John 4:17)
6. He who sins is of the devil, for the devil has sinned from the beginning. For this purpose the Son of God was manifested, that He might destroy the works of the devil. (1 John 3:8)

AAAJ watchman

Jesus said we must put new wine in new skin. So the watchman read the familiar verses again in Matthew. (He further added his notes on related verses from Luke in August 2012 after His own wilderness experience.) Here are the new wine in new skin.

  1. Jesus was led by the Holy Spirit into the wilderness. The Holy Spirit was working with Him. He lived in the power of the Holy Spirit!
  2. He fasted 40 days and 40 nights and has lived supernaturally.
  3. He proclaimed the Word of God to the devil instead of wasting time arguing or discussing theological issues raised by the devil.
  4. He declared to the devil Who He is: Jesus is the Son of God, God Himself.
  5. He showed that there is no need for Him to prove He is Who He is, i.e. Jesus is God.
  6. He used His authority over the devil.

How Jesus reveals Himself and uses His authority (Revised August 2012)

  7. He lived according to what has already been purposed by God and prophesied by prophets (long before He came to earth as a man).

Let us look at the verses below. The words in brackets are from the watchman’s observations._____________________________________

Matt4:1 Then Jesus was led by the Spirit into the wilderness to be tempted there by the devil. 2 For forty days and forty nights he fasted and became very hungry.  (He had normal human hunger but He lived supernaturally, led by the Spirit and not by His flesh)

3 During that time the devil[a] came and said to him, “If you are the Son of God, tell these stones to become loaves of bread.” (The devil tried to manipulate Him and control Him)

4 But Jesus told him, “No! The Scriptures say,

‘People do not live by bread alone,
but by every word that comes from the mouth of God.’[b]” (But Jesus proclaimed to the devil the truth: the Word of God is food. This is the real food that gives life. But only the humble can receive – as revealed in Deuteronomy 8:3)

5 Then the devil took him to the holy city, Jerusalem, to the highest point of the Temple, 6 and said, “If you are the Son of God, jump off! For the Scriptures say,

‘He will order his angels to protect you.
And they will hold you up with their hands
so you won’t even hurt your foot on a stone.’[c]

7 Jesus responded, “The Scriptures also say, ‘You must not test the Lord your God.’[d]” (Here, Jesus declared that Jesus Himself is God – and the devil was trying to tempt God!)

8 Next the devil took him to the peak of a very high mountain and showed him all the kingdoms of the world and their glory. 9 “I will give it all to you,” he said, “if you will kneel down and worship me.”

10 “Get out of here, Satan,” Jesus told him. “For the Scriptures say,

‘You must worship the Lord your God
and serve only him.’[e]” (Again, Jesus declared that He is God and the devil and all others should bow down and worship Him and not otherwise!)

11 Then the devil went away, and angels came and took care of Jesus.

In August 2012, the watchman added  further study notes from the Gospel of Luke as follows:

3:21-22 When all the people were baptized, it came to pass that Jesus also was baptized; and while He prayed, the heaven was opened. 22 And the Holy Spirit descended in bodily form like a dove upon Him, and a voice came from heaven which said, “You are My beloved Son; in You I am well pleased.”

(Jesus was baptized and received the Holy Spirit from on high.)

4:1 “Then Jesus, being filled with the Holy Spirit, returned from the Jordan and was led by the Spirit into the wilderness,”

(Prior to entering the wilderness, Jesus was filled with the Holy Spirit to overcome the devil’s temptations.)

4:14 “Then Jesus returned in the power of the Spirit to Galilee, and news of Him went out through all the surrounding region.”

(After overcoming the devil’s temptations He returned to His ministry in the power of the Holy Spirit.)

Jesus’ example showed that He was the Son of God. Sons of God are led by the Holy Spirit.

Romans 8:14 “For as many as are led by the Spirit of God, these are sons of God.”

How do people become sons of God? Through faith in Jesus.

“For you are all sons of God through faith in Christ Jesus.” (Galatians 3:26)

Sons of God are very blessed. As Jesus Himself proclaimed below, in Matt 5:9 “Blessed (enjoying enviable happiness, spiritually prosperous—with life-joy and satisfaction in God’s favor and salvation, regardless of their outward conditions) are the makers and maintainers of peace, for they shall be called the sons of God!”

However, there are other types of sons, who are not led by the Holy Spirit. They live in their carnal flesh (body and soul), following the dictates of their own hearts, and do not live in the Spirit. Who are they? They are called the sons of disobedience. Here are some of their characteristics:

Colossians 3:5-7 Therefore put to death your members which are on the earth: fornication, uncleanness, passion, evil desire, and covetousness, which is idolatry. Because of these things the wrath of God is coming upon the sons of disobedience, in which you yourselves once walked when you lived in them.

Ephesians 5:5-7For this you know, that no fornicator, unclean person, nor covetous man, who is an idolater, has any inheritance in the kingdom of Christ and God. Let no one deceive you with empty words, for because of these things the wrath of God comes upon the sons of disobedience. Therefore do not be partakers with them.
