the seventh piece of God’s armor: pray in the Spirit (may include offensive testimonies)

the whole armor of God Ephesians 6:10-19

Before we start, * Please do not think that I am advocating that bad things will happen to churches or Christians who do not pray in tongue. I am just giving my personal testimony and testimonies I know or have witnessed or checked first hand. I believe that the teachings of Paul are not there for nothing. The whole armor of God are the supernatural keys to protect us, and help us live an overcomer, victorious life especially in a time like this when many are in disappointments, confusions, and even depressions. We are expected to use the whole armor to protect ourselves and our loved ones. There is no condemnation for those who do not know or believe. But if you now know and believe, then the next logical step is to use them.

We wear the whole armor of God for defensive and offensive purposes. It is spiritual and a crucial prerequisite for living an overcomer, victorious, more than conquerer life on earth as a Kingdom of God citizen. In our previous blogs, we have already covered six pieces of the armor of God: the belt of truth, breastplate of righteousness (the body armor of God’s righteousness), prepared with the gospel of peace (as shoes), the shield of faith, salvation helmet, sword of the Spirit (which is the word of God). Today we shall look at speaking/praying/singing in tongue as the seventh (last) piece of weapons to complete the armor of God. (Ephesians 6:10-18)

Praying in tongue requires the working of the Holy Spirit. As we pray in tongue, we are walking in the Spirit. As Christians, we have the ability to live a supernatural life. There are important spiritual keys that signify our supernatural status in Christ. We need the power of the Holy Spirit to activate the above keys. The apostle Paul has stressed the importance of tongue by saying that he wished they could all speak in tongues (1 Corinthians 14:5), and he thanked God that he spoke in tongue more than the whole Corinth church! (14:18) Paul also told the church that he prayed with the spirit and sang with the spirit, as well as prayed and sang with understanding. (14:15) He told the church not to forbid speaking in tongues. (14:39) Praying in tongues means that your spirit is praying. (14:14) You will be talking to God. You will be speaking by the power of the Holy Spirit. (14:2). A person who speaks in tongues is strengthened personally. (14:4)

Paul actually advocates that we pray in the Spirit at all times and on every occasion. (Ephesians 6:18) This is in the context of his urging us to be strong in the Lord and in His mighty power, by putting on all of God’s armor so that we can stand firm against all strategies of the devil. (6:10-11) Why? Because we are fighting spiritual enemies (rulers and authorities), in the unseen world, in this dark world, and evil spirits in the heavenly places. (6:12-13)

Knowing what we are expected to fight against, help us to appreciate the seventh piece of the armor. In the past and even today, many churches and Christians do not understand the absolute necessity and effectiveness of praying in tongue, at all times and on every occasion. By not putting on this last piece of armor, they are rendered powerless against the spiritual evil.

A testimony: While praying in tongue with the whole group of believers in a prayer and healing meeting, this watchman has seen a vision of how it operates in the spiritual realm. A banner of brilliant light appeared and swallowed up the initially prevailing dark fog over the people. The more they prayed the clearer and brighter the spiritual realm over them became. There were many healed in that gathering. For decades I have always tried to rationalize spiritual manifestations with my rational and logical scientific mind and the professional knowledge and education I acquired in the secular physical realm. Of course I could not find answers to many spiritual things. But the Lord has revealed many spiritual realities over the last decade, to the point that I surrendered my mind to the spiritual truth as Jesus, the apostles, disciples, the early churches and Christians have taught and lived in their daily living. To them it is normal to be supernatural. Praying in tongue is normal to them, with the baptism in the Holy Spirit.

In another testimony of praying in tongue: We were in a prayer meeting. Prior to the start of the meeting, two of us were alerted in our spirit while praying in tongue. One believer saw a vision of the woman leader being approached by a man carrying a raised sword over her head in the process of chopping her head off. This watchman received an urgent revelation word to proclaim “put on the whole armor of God” over that same leader. The two of us (without knowing what each other saw or heard in the spirit) prayed immediately for the leader’s to be protected by the shield of God, and in the spiritual vision the shield manifested instantly. The sword wielding man was cut off by an impenetrable shield. At that instant, we both saw this vision. Later, we asked the leader and she said she suddenly felt a severe and oppressive headache at that moment and it was gone after that moment.

Reading what Paul (and many other Christians throughout the last two thousands years) has gone through and not only survived, but overcome as a more than conquerer, I am convinced that the whole armor of God is supernatural and indeed invincible in spiritual warfare. Some teachers have taught that Jesus has finished the war and there is nothing for a believer to do. I agree that Jesus has finished the salvation and healing on the cross. At the same time, when I read the Scriptures and Epistles, when I read the testimonies of men and women of faith in the history of Christians, I realize that specific wars still exist for believers to overcome in this world. There are many good teachings on how to overcome wars in Christ. I would not go into them in this post. (Readers can ask the Lord to show them which ones to read and apply. I have also included lots of such resources in my Healing School blog).

My personal learning, application, and experience of outcome have impacted all my writings in this blog which started as “One man’s journey in the Holy Spirit” eleven years ago. I am still learning to grow spiritually while walking with the Lord. Praying in tongue has been the number one key for my breakthrough in the spirit and application of the words of God. I first encountered praying in tongue around 2005. Prior to praying in the Spirit I could not exercise the power of the Holy Spirit in me. For decades I have served the Lord with fervor and dedication without power. And I could see the futility in many cases. I could not help others to effectively change their lives and experience the abundant lives Jesus has promised in John 10:10, despite all our efforts and sacrifices.

The tragic case of one church: In one particular church that I have personally attended for a significant number of years, I observed that two pastors, two elders’ wives and two deacons’ sons developed depression, cancers and autism respectively. The percentage of the afflicted was way out. The church overtly forbids the baptism of the Holy Spirit and praying in tongue. The spiritually discerning Christians had to leave. In anther church which I attended for a decade since born again, a deacon’s son suffered from severe depression and one day he jumped to his death. The church was also one of those that taught members against speaking in tongue. * (Please see the first paragraph at the beginning of this post)

In a recent case in another church, a pastor’s wife started praying in tongue in last August when she finally broke through her barrier. Within that same month, her family experienced a miraculous healing of her son from a severe dengue (The severe form of dengue fever, also called dengue hemorrhagic fever, can cause serious bleeding, a sudden drop in blood pressure (shock) and death. It normally takes 10-14 days to get rid of the infection from the body). He was first tested and confirmed diagnosis by a clinic. In the middle of the night before admission, the boy was in great pain and high fever. After the mom prayed in tongue fervently he went into a deep sleep. She continued to pray in tongue throughout the night. The miracle is that the boy was not even admitted by the hospital when his dad took him to the emergency ward the next day. He was considered safe and had no trace of dengue. He returned home the same day and went to school the next day.

In a most recent testimony by a woman who heard our teachings, accepted Christ, baptized in the Holy Spirit, and started speaking in tongue, because she is a new convert she does not know the Bible or how to pray. So she keeps praying in tongue. Her miracle includes: healed of depressions (both her daughter and her), restored relationship, restored financially, and whole family (including her husband) accepted Christ and were baptized in water and in the Holy Spirit last week.

There are too many testimonies for me to put in this blog. There are many benefits of praying in tongue. (Please read the Bible verses and the benefits in my other posts. There are so many evidences that praying in tongue is really a weapon we cannot afford to ignore.

Bible verse on the whole armor of God

Ephesians 6:10-19

10 Finally, my brethren, be strong in the Lord and in the power of His might. 11 Put on the whole armor of God, that you may be able to stand against the [b]wiles of the devil. 12 For we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of [c]the darkness of this age, against spiritual hosts of wickedness in the heavenly places. 13 Therefore take up the whole armor of God, that you may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand.

14 Stand therefore, having girded your waist with truth, having put on the breastplate of righteousness, 15 and having shod your feet with the preparation of the gospel of peace; 16 above all, taking the shield of faith with which you will be able to quench all the fiery darts of the wicked one. 17 And take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God; 18 praying always with all prayer and supplication in the Spirit, being watchful to this end with all perseverance and supplication for all the saints— 19 and for me, that utterance may be given to me, that I may open my mouth boldly to make known the mystery of the gospel, 20 for which I am an ambassador in chains; that in it I may speak boldly, as I ought to speak.

Armor is for warfare purposes

Nehemiah 4:16 So it was, from that time on, that half of my servants worked at construction, while the other half held the spears, the shields, the bows, and wore armor; and the leaders were behind all the house of Judah.

The Armor of God is the Armor of Light. God is Light.

Roman 13:12 The night is far spent, the day is at hand. Therefore let us cast off the works of darkness, and let us put on the armor of light.
