a new watchman: rising up early in the morning

One mark of being a watchman is this phrase which God has repeatedly spoken: “rising up early”.

Why? God does it. He expects His watchman do the same.

Watchman rising up early includes: hearing God, taking down His message, conveying by speaking the message to the target audience.

The watchman messenger must take note that it does not promise the intended positive outcome. When the people reject the message they actually reject God.

Out of eight times this phrase appeared in the Bible, Thrice, the Lord uses it to describe Himself. Five times He uses it to describe His messengers (prophets, servants) four of which are recorded in Jeremiah.

God says of He Himself being rejected by the people: ““and I spoke to you, rising up early and speaking, but you did not hear, and I called you, but you did not answer,” He speaks of His people not taking heed of His warning. “Obey My voice.” “And they have turned to Me the back, and not the face; though I taught them, rising up early and teaching them, yet they have not listened to receive instruction.” (Jeremiah 7:13; 11:7; 32:33)

God speaks of His messengers being rejected by them: “I have also sent to you all My servants the prophets, rising up early and sending them, saying, ‘Turn now everyone from his evil way, amend your doings, and do not go after other gods to serve them; then you will dwell in the land which I have given you and your fathers.’ But you have not inclined your ear, nor obeyed Me.” (Jeremiah 35:15; 7:25; 26:5; 29:19)

2 Chronicles 36:11-16

11  Zedekiah was twenty-one years old when he became king,..but he stiffened his neck and hardened his heart against turning to the Lord God of Israel. 14 Moreover all the leaders of the priests and the people transgressed more and more, according to all the abominations of the nations, and defiled the house of the Lord which He had consecrated in Jerusalem. 15 And the Lord God of their fathers sent warnings to them by His messengers, rising up early and sending them, because He had compassion on His people and on His dwelling place. 16 But they mocked the messengers of God, despised His words, and scoffed at His prophets, until the wrath of the Lord arose against His people, till there was no remedy.

Romans 10:20-21 New King James Version (NKJV)

20 But Isaiah is very bold and says:

I was found by those who did not seek Me;
I was made manifest to those who did not ask for Me.”[a]

21 But to Israel he says:

“All day long I have stretched out My hands
To a disobedient and contrary people.”[b]

Romans 11:25-27 New King James Version (NKJV)

25 For I do not desire, brethren, that you should be ignorant of this mystery, lest you should be wise in your own opinion, that blindness in part has happened to Israel until the fullness of the Gentiles has come in. 26 And so all Israel will be saved,[a] as it is written:

“The Deliverer will come out of Zion,
And He will turn away ungodliness from Jacob;
27 For this is My covenant with them,
When I take away their sins.”[b]
